| Structure Fire April 27, 2010 -
On Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 0441 hours Northwood Fire was dispatched to a possible structure fire on E. Andrus Rd. Rossford Fire was also dispatched on the Automatic Aid assignment. This stretch of road is one of the few areas in Northwood that do not have nearby hydrants. Personnel have spent many hours during training pre-planning areas like this and other high-hazard areas throughout the city. The structure involved had been vacant for many years. It was 2300+ sq. ft and was built in 1900. There were also 3 large barns and a few other shed-type storage building on the property The building was heavily involved on our arrival and defensive operations were initiated. Rossford Fire provided water supply from the nearest hydrant, which required them to lay1000' of 5" hose and Northwood had to lay an additional 600' of 5" from Rossford's Engine to the scene. Rossford relay-pumped to Northwood's Truck which then fed Engine 813. Lake Twp was also dispatched for a tanker in the event our water supply would not be sufficient. Crews were able to contain the fire to the orginal structure with the truck and a couple 2 1/2" lines. The building was a total loss and an excavator was called in to demolish the building. |
